“One of the world’s leading authorities on Romania has written a memoir. It is a deeply personal, often hilarious look back at an eventful career, as well as a love letter to a much misunderstood country.” (Emerging Europe)

In Search of Romania paints a portrait of Romania under the dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaușescu. Dennis Deletant’s association with Romania and its people dates back to 1965, when he first visited the country. This vivid memoir charts his first-hand experience of the Communist era. It is coloured by the early 1970s surveillance of his future wife, Andrea; his contacts with dissidents; and his articles and BBC World Service broadcasts — which led to his being declared persona non grata by the communist government in 1988.
